Materials & Care

925 sterling silver

925 sterling silver is a high-quality material that shines beautifully, consisting of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of another metal, usually copper. It stays beautiful forever. Especially if you polish it every now and then. This means that it can oxidize (dark color) over time due to the acidity of your skin and/or humidity, but this can easily be remedied with a special cleaning cloth. We offer these cleaning cloths free of charge for orders containing 925 sterling silver jewelry. If you are interested in this, please mention this in the comments field when ordering. To be on the safe side, we recommend taking off your jewelry when swimming/showering and avoiding chemicals such as perfume and lotion.

Do you often experience allergic reactions when wearing jewelry? 925 sterling silver can then be worn in most cases. But because every skin reacts differently, we cannot guarantee this 100%.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel, also called stainless steel, is an alloy of mainly iron, chromium, nickel and carbon. It hardly discolors and is super sturdy.

Jewelry made from Stainless steel therefore contains a small amount of nickel. However, this is usually too little nickel to cause allergic reactions. Wearing this material, just like wearing 925 sterling silver, will not be a problem if you are sensitive to this.

24K Gold

Our gold hoop earrings with a charm (diameter 12 mm) are made of brass, a composition of copper and zinc, with a layer of 24K gold. 24-carat means that the layer around the earring consists of at least 99.5% pure gold. These earrings are of high quality and will hardly discolour. However, as with 925 sterling silver jewelry, we recommend removing the earrings when swimming/showering and avoiding chemicals such as perfume and lotion. Moreover, the earrings are nickel-free, so they should not cause an allergic reaction.

Gold/silver plated

Our gold/silver plated jewelry often consists of a base metal such as copper or zinc alloy with a layer of gold or silver. This shiny layer can wear out, causing the jewelry to discolour (darker). This process can be extended by applying a thin layer of transparent nail polish. Gold/silver plated jewelry is of lower quality, but the price is of course also a bit lower. It is of course possible to keep the jewelry beautiful for a long time if you follow the following advice:

  • Take off the jewelry while sleeping
  • Do not play sports wearing jewelry
  • Avoid water/moisture, so do not swim or shower with the jewelry on and keep the jewelry away from damp areas
  • Avoid chemicals, perfumes and lotions

We do not recommend wearing gold/silver plated jewelry if you are sensitive to allergic reactions. Our 925 sterling silver and Stainless steel jewelry are a good alternative for this 🙂
